Founded in May 2020, Harpy Productions was created by Noga Flaishon and Katie Pratten.
Our motto "WICKED WOMEN TELLING WEIRD TALES" is a perfect summary of what we do. We strive to bring women to the forefront as Directors, Producers, Artists, Writers and Actors.
Our work focuses on new and original works by primarily undiscovered talent - bringing to life stories that may not otherwise be told. We use narrative devised from the worlds of Science Fiction and Horror cinema to examine real social issues, and shine a light on dark corners.
How did we go about choosing the name of our production company? Harpies are mythical creatures, depicted in ancient Greek writings as being a bird with the face of a woman. Half human, half bird, all storm. They are the raging hounds of karmic justice, spirits of wind and guardians of the underworld. Later on, with the influence of Shakespeare, they became a name for a nasty or annoying woman...and that term stuck! As such, we chose to embrace the angry, strange and feminine creature of the Harpy as our symbol.

LIKE NO TOMORROW:
AN APOCALYPSE ANTHOLOGY
Due to COVID-19, creative industries across the world have been hit hard.
Numerous projects and festivals have been cancelled or postponed, leaving hundreds of thousands of creatives in an extended period of little to no income and instability. Theatres are shut and may be the last public spaces that reopen. In response to this, Harpy Productions teamed up with writer and actor, Sophie Rivers, in order to bring the world of Theatre online.
For one night only, a variety of artistic creators came together to stream works of original Theatre that were themed around the Apocalypse and the end of days. This subject (swaddled in real anxiety) was approached with satire, dark humour and hope.
You can now watch the performances via the Harpy Productions Youtube Channel using the below link:
The money raised from patrons and audience members went to The Samaritans Organisation, who provide support to people affected by emotional distress and need just someone to talk to. During the pandemic, Samaritans are actively enhancing their services to accommodate this growing need, as well as establishing a new confidential support line for NHS and social care workers.
The standout piece for writing, acting, and directing is Hannah Kennedy’s touching play "Fire". Director Nell Bailey makes the perceptive choice not to pretend that the actors are in the same space. Instead, she stages this drama as a reading, with attention to character and story. Mogali Masuku and Sam MacGregor are allowed space to respond to each other with emotional acuity, delivering compelling performances.

- Encompass Productions
"Each director used Zoom to create such unique performances. This is the most inspired I’ve been about digital theatre"
- Alistair Wilkinson
"Issues such as shopping, technology, relationships, looting, cosplay, pop culture and storytelling run through this collection. Two hours of lockdown drama, pitched, planned and rehearsed in a matter of weeks, tightly performed and directed. Moments are captured, whether trivial or profound, long or short"

EVENT DATE: TBA
Directed by Coral Tarran, "Bunker" is a post-apocalyptic one-act thriller Theatre Production, which explores the inner mechanism, cruelty and perseverance of the human mind.
In a desolate world, the "Bunker" is the only safe space left. Two women are stuck inside. One is desperate to leave; the other will stop at nothing to keep them both there.
The play was supposed to have it's debut in the Camden Fringe 2020. We respect and understand the need to delay this year's festival, but are determined to give this play the debut it deserves in due course!
(The irony that a play about two women in a confined space being delayed due to lockdown is not lost on us!)
Harpy Productions has ongoing fundraisers in order to keep our projects alive and to ensure security for future projects going forward!
